The mid-market rate is the midpoint between the global buy and sell prices for a currency pair. It's the fairest, most transparent rate — the same one you'll see on Google or Reuters — with no hidden mark-up. Banks and many providers quote a weaker rate and keep the difference. PEXX passes on the mid-market rate with a low, clearly disclosed spread.

When you send US Dollars to India, the recipient doesn't receive dollars — the money is converted and paid out in Indian Rupees over India's domestic banking rails. Knowing how those rails work (and which account type the money lands in) helps you predict speed, limits and taxes.
Unified Payments Interface
India's instant payment system, run by NPCI. Transfers settle in seconds, 24/7, addressed by a UPI ID or QR code instead of account numbers. Per-transaction limits are typically ₹1 lakh (higher for some categories). International remittances are increasingly delivered to UPI-linked accounts through partner banks.
Instant · 24/7Immediate Payment Service
Instant bank-to-bank transfers that work around the clock, including weekends and holidays. Limits are bank-dependent, commonly up to ₹5 lakh per transaction. IMPS is the workhorse last-mile rail for inbound remittances because it clears in seconds at any hour.
Instant · up to ₹5 lakhNational Electronic Funds Transfer
A batch-based system that settles in half-hourly cycles, available 24/7. The RBI sets no upper limit (individual banks may), which makes NEFT common for larger transfers where a few minutes' wait doesn't matter.
Half-hourly batchesReal Time Gross Settlement
Continuous, transaction-by-transaction settlement designed for high-value payments — minimum ₹2 lakh with no upper cap, available 24/7. Used for large remittances, property purchases and business payments where finality matters.
High value · ₹2 lakh+If the recipient is a resident of India, money simply lands in their regular savings account. Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) instead hold one of three dedicated account types, and the choice affects tax and repatriation:
Non-Resident Ordinary
A rupee account for income earned in India — rent, dividends, pension. Interest is taxable in India (TDS applies), and repatriation abroad is capped at USD 1 million per financial year with documentation. Transfers from abroad can also be deposited here.
India income · taxableNon-Resident External
A rupee account funded from foreign earnings. Interest is tax-free in India, and both principal and interest are fully repatriable. Remittances of your own overseas income typically land in an NRE account.
Tax-free · repatriableForeign Currency Non-Resident (Bank)
A term deposit held in a foreign currency such as USD or GBP for one to five years — so there's no rupee exchange risk. Interest is tax-free in India and the balance is fully repatriable at maturity.
Foreign currency depositPEXX delivers USD to INR payouts through India's local banking rails, so the recipient sees a normal rupee credit in their bank account — no special setup on their side. You see the live rate and fees before you confirm, and most payouts settle within minutes.
We use the same mid-market rate you see here, with a low and transparent spread — no rate mark-ups buried in the fee.
Most transfers arrive within minutes to a few hours, so recipients aren't left waiting days for funds to clear.

INR
The Indian Rupee (INR) is the official currency of India, issued by the Reserve Bank of India. It's one of the most important emerging-market currencies and a high-volume corridor for remittances from the US and elsewhere.

Your send is converted and paid out in INR to an Indian bank account (or UPI-linked account). Local rails such as IMPS/UPI make last-mile credits fast once the payout is released.
Foreign earnings remitted by NRIs often land in NRE accounts (repatriable, tax-free interest in India). India-sourced income typically uses NRO. Residents use ordinary savings accounts.
Many India payouts settle within minutes after release; larger RTGS-style credits still clear the same day in most cases.
An NRE (Non-Resident External) account holds rupees funded from your foreign earnings — interest is tax-free in India and the full balance is repatriable abroad. An NRO (Non-Resident Ordinary) account holds income earned in India, such as rent or dividends — interest is taxable in India and repatriation is capped at USD 1 million per financial year. Remittances of your own overseas income typically go to NRE; India-sourced income belongs in NRO.
Increasingly, yes. NPCI has been opening UPI to cross-border remittances through partner banks and licensed providers, so some international transfers can now be delivered to a UPI-linked bank account. Most inbound remittances still arrive as a standard bank credit via rails like IMPS or NEFT — either way, the money lands in the same bank account.
IMPS settles instantly, 24/7, and is typically used for remittance payouts up to about ₹5 lakh per transaction. NEFT settles in half-hourly batches with no RBI-imposed upper limit, so it suits larger amounts. As a recipient you don't usually choose — the payout provider picks the rail that clears your amount fastest.
If the recipient lives in India, the money arrives in their regular rupee savings or current account. If the recipient is an NRI sending money to themselves, it typically lands in their NRE account (foreign earnings) or NRO account (India-linked funds). The transfer itself is delivered over domestic rails like IMPS or NEFT.
