Did you know that Telegram has their own blockchain? Named “The Open Network (TON)”, it was developed by the Telegram team and launched for testnet in 2018.
However, the popular messaging application withdrew from the project in 2020, following litigation with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission.
The project was then taken over by the TON foundation.
Just yesterday, Telegram founder Pavel Durov announced on his personal channel that he was impressed by the success of auctions domain and wallet names on the TON blockchain.
He also implied that he was open to auctioning telegram names, channel links, as well as group names to the 700 million users on the platform.
“Let’s see if we can add a little bit of Web 3.0 to Telegram in the coming weeks“.
These will be likely hosted on the TON blockchain, and may include stickers or emojis.
However, this has not been received very well by both the TON community, as well as general telegram users.
His message has since received a large number of dislikes, even within the TON community, with some participation being censored.
